Dolphins are one of the most intelligent marine mammals that are found world-wide.  With friendly appearance and playful attitude, Dolphins are popular to human culture.   Dolphin coloration varies but the most common is gray with darker backs than the rest of its body.  Many dolphins jump out of the water and follow ships.  Scientists believe that dolphins conserve energy by swimming side by side a ship.  A female dolphin goes near the surface of the water when it is time to give birth.  Once the calf is born, the mother will take it to the surface for its calf to breathe.

Inquirer news recently posted an article about animal smarts and quoted, Dolphins are so distantly related to humans that it’s been 95 million years since we had even a remote common ancestor. Yet when it comes to intelligence, social behavior and communications, some researchers say dolphins come as close to humans as our ape and monkey cousin, maybe closer”.  Research shows that these aquatic animals are no doubt the closest in intelligence to humans despite the fact that the dolphin’s brain is completely wired differently compared to humans’.  It is an amazing irony that these mammals are so different yet so much alike humans.

The smartest creatures in the world

The Dolphins are the second smartest animals in the world, though they swim and live in the ocean they are commonly known to be mammals. They are noble and admirable creatures that have been known to save drowning fishermen and sailors. But even as they are commonly loved and respected there are still societies that hunt and butcher these majestic creatures eat them and sell them. It is a sad fact that even though these people are considered to be one of the most enviro-friendly in the planet kill these and creatures as a type of tradition and a way of life. Human beings still have a lot to learn from humble and gentle creatures like the dolphins.

The Yangtze River dolphins may never be seen again, in the year 2006 an expedition of about 30 researchers searched the Yangtze River for signs of these creatures and failed to see any of them left. Also known as the Baiji or “Goddess of the River” they were a native predator in the river’s ecology, in the early part of the 20th century hundreds were known to be spotted all over the Yangtze, but after the Great Leap forward denounced the animal’s traditional venerated status as a goddess of the river many fishermen have been known to have hunted down and captured the dolphin. Now because of pollution and developments in the Yangtze there may never be another goddess in the river again.
